Esther + Ben
Esther showed up on my doorstep. I was thirteen and the new kid in town. Somehow my brother and I were having a party (probably a youth group event) even though we'd only been in town a week or two. I remember she was wearing a beanie and green rain boots and that she sang for us. A month later, Esther asked me to be best friends for the summer. It's been the longest summer of our lives.
I imagine it will stay that way. It's always summer when Esther's around.
Five or six years later Esther met Ben. At first he was the cute guy with tattoos who shaped surf boards. And then he became the intern at church. Esther always sang for church so it was sort of meant to be. Or at least that's how I saw it.
Girls like the chase. We like to be desired, sought after and treasured. If you ever think she's playing hard to get, it's not the case. She's just trying to savor those first few moments of dating that keep men in a daze (giving us daisies.)
They started dating on the Fourth of July. Esther likes to point out that "sparks were flying, literally." They've had their ups and downs, if you can call it that. They never stay mad for more that a minute. I think they "took a break" for an hour or two on a couple of occasions. The point is, they're the real deal.
This weekend Esther and Ben came to visit on their way to Nashville. Esther's an amazing musician. She's moving west to go to hair school and pursue her dream. You can support her by picking up her CD on iTunes (search Esther Faith) or just check out what she's about at www.EstherFaith.com.
